Father’s Day is coming up and it may be a good idea to shop for gifts if you haven’t already. If your dad is anything like mine, they are really into skincare and love using unique products within their routine to keep them looking fantastic.
All my life, I’ve never known my dad to have skin problems. As a 52-year-old man, he’s aged extremely well by maintaining his–so-called–wrinkles and fine lines. As an entrepreneur and a busy police officer, he’s kept a simple skincare routine that works best for him.
When it comes to skincare for his face, he only uses Artra Plus Deep Cleansing Oatmeal Soap and follows up with 100% Pure Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. Oatmeal soap is great for normally oily skin. It also acts as a gentle exfoliator for acne-prone skin by not causing damage or potential irritation.
Coconut oil may not be suitable for those with oily skin as it can clog pores and cause acne breakouts. However, if you have normal skin, a lot of benefits include:
- Maintains moisture
- Reduces inflammation
- Lightens dark spots/evens skin tone
- Improves skin elasticity and collagen production
- Fights aging skin/reduces wrinkles and fine lines
“The coconut oil really deep cleans and is healthy for my skin and hair,” says Dad. “I put it in my hair after washing it and also every once in a while as well.”
When it comes to shaving his face, he uses Aveeno Shave Gel because it helps with the prevention of razor bumps, nicks, cuts, and dryness of the skin by providing moisture. He also uses Bump Patrol that tackles bumps while softening and soothing the skin. For moisturizing the skin on his body, he interchanges between Eucerin Roughness Relief and Aveeno Stress Relief Moisturizing Lotion. They’re both fragrance-free and rich in moisture. However, Eucerin provides a thicker consistency as it restores skin.
“Eucerin lotion is very thick and is a deep moisturizer while the Aveeno goes on very smooth and not as thick,” says Dad.
My dad switches it up when it comes to his feet by using African Shea Butter. From serving 20 years in the U.S. Army, the skin on his feet suffered a great deal. “I had problems with my feet because of military-style boots,” says Dad. “They caused skin cracking, scaling, and dryness until I started using the shea butter.”
Shea butter is actually a staple of mine as well for my skin and hair because it contains fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins. Some benefits include:
- Hydrates skin and hair
- Soothes skin
- Reduces inflammation
- Reduces dark spots/stretch marks/blemishes/discoloration
- Restores skin elasticity
My dad and I seem to think alike when it comes to shea butter as well. “The shea butter really lubricates my feet well; doesn’t dry them out, and keeps them moisturized throughout the day, preventing the cracking and scaling,” says Dad. I use a bit of coconut butter, and shea butter for my skin and I never have a problem with dryness even throughout the wintertime. But I may have to consider this oatmeal soap that my dad keeps talking about.
Though these are the only skincare products my dad uses, other skincare loving dads should enjoy any new products you buy for them, as long as they’re gentle. You can also make their gift extra special by buying or creating a gift box full of skincare goodies, such as all the wonderful ones from Etsy!
Whatever skincare products you gift your dad, always make sure they do certain spot tests to make sure it’s suitable for their skin because everyone is different. We need to have our dads out here looking their very best every single day, so let’s start by providing them with long term skincare that they’ll love.
