When it comes to nail polish, colors come and go. Few polishes frequent my nail bag, so let’s have a look at the colors who’ve earned my loyalty.
Nail polish is personal. We choose them based on our skin tone, personality, and upcoming events. Hands are often one of the first attributes people notice when meeting someone through shaking their hands or glancing at their fingers holding a glass. I’m pretty basic when it comes to nail polish, and I don’t like anything matte. My collection is small but versatile, so keep reading for my top 5 nail polish shades worth your time.
I always prep my nails before applying nail polish. It’s super easy to do and important to ensure longevity on the nails. Here’s what to do:
- Start with a clean base, by removing all remaining nail polish from previous lacquer with polish remover.
- The next step is to tidy up those cuticles. Push them back using a cuticle pusher and massage cuticle oil over the top to keep them healthy.
- Use a good quality nail file to shape your nails, making sure to always go in one direction for a smooth edge.
- Apply hand cream, dragging the product right down into the nails, and massaging it in.
- Apply a clear base coat to protect your nails from staining and to improve nail polish application. That’s it!
For a demonstration on how to do this, check out this YouTube tutorial from cutepolish, who shows just how easy it is to prepare your nails for nail polish application. Okay! Let’s get into the nail polish shades I love right now.
Everyday Nails: Nail’s INC Primrose Street
Hands down, this is my favorite nail polish, if you pardon the pun! The color is pearly, and the formula is luxurious. It’s the ‘safe’ option because it’s a pinky nude, but this nail polish is so much more than that. The iridescent nature of the formula picks up the light and gleams off nails, showing different colors as it does so. This nail polish is subtle but by no means boring and lasts well too. Should it happen someday, I’ll be wearing this for my wedding.
Aqua Nails: Essie Aruba Blue
A royal blue is a classic nail polish shade. This one by Essie looks great on toenails too! LookFantsatic describes it as a ‘frosty sapphire blue with a metallic shimmer,’ and I couldn’t say it better myself. It’s a fabulous deep blue, which draws the eye to the nails. Wear this nail polish for any occasion, it’s more versatile than you’d think, and one coat is enough. Happy days!
Party Nails: OPI Bogotá Blackberry
Nothing says party season more than a deep berry nail polish. I must admit, this polish only appears annually at Christmas, but when it does, I know it’s time to get excited about festivities. This one is a deep red-wine shade and creamy when applied onto nails. It layers well and hardens into a lovely coat lasting up to two weeks. Paired with a red lip, you’ll look striking and sexy.
Beach Nails: Color Club East Austin
This is my ‘fun’ nail polish, best for tropical summers. This bright, creamy coral has a shine like no other and reminds me of being on holiday with a Piña colada in hand. I’m not a matte girl, so a gorgeous glossy finish really gets me going, and this nail polish is no exception. I love how fast this dries on my nails, making the experience effortless and enjoyable while looking ready for the summer sun.
Pink Nails: OPI Pink-ing Of You
Back to OPI for my ultimate pinky pink nail polish. OPI feels luxurious to apply and lasts well on nails, so they’re a no-brainer when it comes to good quality nail products. This bubblegum shade coats nails in that young, carefree color I remember all my barbies wearing as a child. It’s not for everyone. Usually, this is the shade my toenails sport all year round. Pink shades are so easy on toes; I always feel if I wear anything else, it looks odd. Pink is here to stay, and this is a lovely shade.
I hope I’ve inspired you to treat yourself and your nails to a makeover.
