It’s never too late to find love again. Read romance told your way.
My dental hygienist could distract me from a gingivitis cleaning with a passionate conversation about romance books. And if there is one thing I love more than my obvious unhealthy relationship with bread and sugar, it’s a steamy romance.
She complained about how hard it is to relate to certain books as a divorced single mom in her forties; she wanted stories that told of second chances at finding romance.
And she was right. The current pool of romance books is flooded with combative young adults and rough dynamics. It can be an assault to practicality, even by the fictional standards of being swept off your feet by a boss billionaire.
So if you need to take a break from the 18-year-old girl who can’t decide between the jock or the scolding yet brilliant bad boy, here is a list of four second chance romance novels, inspired by people willing to try again.
1. Lukas (Ashes and Embers Series, Book 3) by Carian Cole
This book is one of my favorite revenge novels. A 36-year-old mother of two has her life upended when her husband leaves her for another woman. To symbolize her new lease on life, she nabs some ink from a local tattoo parlor. But, her 24-year-old tattoo artist, Lukas, leaves a far more impressive mark. This shy gal tries to write off her new kindled romance as a fling, but Lukas has other plans.
It is a series, but it can be tolerated as a stand-alone.
2. Soaring, a second chance romance by Kristen Ashley
Divorced, American heiress Amelia Hathaway switches from life in the fast lane to rural Maine to mend her relationship with her three kids. She’s barely unpacked before her dreamy, firefighting neighbor catches her eye. She knows he is interested, but has a rough time getting past the chip on his shoulder. This second chance romance is also a great lesson in self-reflection and prioritizing.
3. My Stubborn Heart, a second chance romance by Becky Wade
Overwhelmed by work and a horrible dating life, Kate Donovan leaps at the opportunity to travel to Redbud, Pennsylvania with her grandmother. She draws toward Matt Jarreau; the man hired to renovate her grandmother’s home. Matt has some wounds to bear, and Kate makes it her mission to draw him to the light. Could he be the answer to her prayers?
This romance is sweet and easy to read, yet filled with realistic characters who question God’s plan. It’s witty and humorous, but medicinal because of the spirituality themes.
4. The Gift of Second Chances (The Styles of Love, Book 3) , a second chance romance by N.D. Jones
This contemporary second chance romance features couple Dr. Angela Styles-Franklin and her husband, Sean. The past twenty years of their relationship comes to a head when the truth about a brief affair threatens to “dismantle their family.” As one reviewer said, “There are no villains in this story, just two people trying to find their way back to each other.”
