With so many people living with mental illnesses, and sharing their experiences, we can create awareness. So here are five books about living with mental illness you should read.

Everything Here is Beautiful is an adult novel. The book involves a sisterly relationship. But, it also shows off important topics such as immigration in America and mental illnesses.

The book follows the story of two Chinese sisters who were brought to America in their childhood. The older sister, Miranda, is protective of her younger sister, Lucia. One day, Lucia starts hearing voices. So, the older sister starts her efforts to help her sister.

This book follows the story of how Charita suffered a psychotic episode after her grandmother’s breakdown. Afterward, Charita was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and starts struggling. It is also a tale of hope and love.

This book is another autobiography about mental illness. It is written by Maggy van Eijk, a writer for BuzzFeed. In the book, she shares her story of living with borderline personality disorder, anxiety and depression.

Not to Fall Apart is a book about self-awareness and self-care. It is based on the lessons she learned about what is helpful and what is not on the journey from self harm to self care.

This book is also an autobiography. Its author is Stephanie Wittels, and she tells the story of how her brother lived with addiction and died of a heroin overdose. This book is sentimental and beautiful. She also shares her emotional devastation from losing her brother.

Everything is Horrible and Beautiful is an example of resilience. The book shares the struggles of addiction and the devastation of losing a loved one. But, it is also a portrait of a comedic genius and a talented soul. She is someone that even in the worst moments was able to make people laugh.
