In 2009, League of Legends was Riot Games’ first splash into the online, multiplayer gaming world. LoL is still wildly popular today, so it’s no surprise Valorant attracted immediate hype as a brand new online first-person shooter.

Let’s start with the basics: Valorant is a free online multiplayer first-person shooter. It sets players up to face off in teams of five as tactical shooters. Each team can either detonate or defuse “the Spike” in each round of game play.

In Valorant, each player can game as an “agent” in one of four different categories: Duelist, Initiator, Controller, or Sentinel. The character designs for these agents look super cool! Each agent has a brief biography and country of origin listed too.

The agents in Valorant have a variety of weapons to choose from. Weapon categories include Sidearms, SMGs, Shotguns, Rifles, Snipers, Heavies, and Melee. This multiplayer game allows players to choose the weapon that best fits their combat style and will lead them to victory. Check out the list here.

Valorant also has four unique maps that players can fight in: Bind, Haven, Split, or Ascent. Each map tailors to specific gameplay styles for this first-person shooter. Riot Games designed the maps so none of them are the same in layout or design.

I’ll be honest, I rarely gravitate toward online, multiplayer games. I stream sometimes on Twitch, but only for solo campaigns. It’s especially hard for me to get into first-person shooters because I enjoy being able to see my character move around.

However, Valorant looks promising in design and gameplay. The artistry of the worlds and agents looks fresh and fun. I got some first-person shooter experience with The Outer Worlds so I look forward to playing this new multiplayer game.
