The long-developing Mike Tyson biopic is finally moving forward with Jamie Foxx as its lead face. The actor is all set to flash his bulked-up physique in the movie.
Boxing enthusiasts have a reason to rejoice because the Mike Tyson biopic is alive and well, even after a precarious 6-year-hiatus. The film, which was announced back in 2014, has ceased development over the years, and it was rumoured that budgetary constraints had scrapped the film. But Hollywood A-lister Jamie Foxx has now officially confirmed that a Mike Tyson biopic is in development, and the Academy Award winner himself will embody the lauded boxer in the movie.
Jamie Foxx Confirms Playing Mike Tyson In His Long-Awaited Biopic
Jamie Foxx confirmed the development pertaining to the Mike Tyson movie during a live Instagram interview with producer Mark Birnbaum. Birnbaum asked Foxx about Mike Tyson’s biopic and whether the movie would see the light of the day. Foxx replied in affirmative, confirming that he would himself chronicle the life of the American heavyweight boxer.
“Doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get it done but we officially got the real ball rolling,” he said. “I can’t wait to show people what it is.”
Jamie Foxx Talks About Preparing For His Role As Mike Tyson
Jamie Foxx has taken up significant personal investments for his new movie. The Ray star is required to put on some extra pounds to convincingly portray Mike Tyson in the upcoming movie. And for that, the actor completes a fitness regime of 60 pull-ups, 60 dips, and 100 push-ups every day. Foxx needs to weigh at least 216 lbs before he can start filming the biopic.
To perfect his look as the acclaimed boxer, Jamie Foxx will also resort to the use of VFX in his movie. Talking about the use of special effects to add value to his portrayal of Mike Tyson, the actor said, “The technology of how I’m going to look, I guarantee you people will run up on me in the street and ask for autographs and think that I’m Mike.”
Mike Tyson Biopic: The Story
The upcoming biopic will navigate Mike Tyson’s life through the peak of his career. It will address the rise of Tyson to becoming an undisputed world champion, before diving into the icon’s frequent controversies. Mike Tyson was jailed after being convicted for rape in 1992. Later in 2003, the boxing icon filed for bankruptcy, and in 2003 he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and driving under the influence. The Jamie Foxx movie will cover all these aspects of Tyson’s life, detailing his struggles under the instruction of the prolific Martin Scorsese.
