Halloween movies are a great way to get the family together. Yet choosing a kid-friendly film can be hard. Here are three of my favorites.

Let’s face it, picking out movies for Halloween that are child friendly can be hard to do. There are so many different Halloween movies for all tastes. Parents have to be sure that they choose those that won’t cause nightmares. One thing we look forward to is the 31 Nights of Halloween schedule on Freeform. This is a great list if you’re looking for a wider variety. Movie night will also require fun snacks that will help make the most of family Halloween time. Making the right snacks for the movie you choose can be a fun way to have even more family time.

‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’

There is no doubt that Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is one of the best movies for Halloween. This has been a favorite among kids and adults for many years. This stop-motion movie was first released in 1993 and is still popular today. It was originally a poem that Tim Burton wrote in 1982.

In this fun-filled movie, Jack Skellington, also known as the Pumpkin King, is the leader of Halloween Town. He finds himself bored with the same Halloween routine and takes a walk in the woods where he stumbles across the door to Christmas Town. After liking what he discovered, he makes a plan to steal Christmas. After teaching the ghosts, vampires, and other Halloween creatures about the new holiday, his plan goes into action.

This movie has been a family favorite for many years. I have to say it will always be my favorite, and my children love it as well. So this October, grab your family and your favorite movie time snack and gather around the television for this favorite. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is a Halloween favorite that will be playing all month.

‘Hocus Pocus’

Another family favorite is the movie about three witty witches, “Hocus Pocus.” Released in 1993, it has been loved by families ever since. I can say that we watch this movie every year, and my young daughters love it.

These three witches were brought back from the dead by some kids messing around in their old house after 300 years. They struggle with the changes to the town in all those years and have a hard time recovering their stolen spellbook from three kids. They only have a limited amount of time to make their potion and reclaim their youth before they turn to dust.

Make sure you check out this adventurous yet fun movie with the whole family. There are even exciting rumors of part two to this great family Halloween movie, so we will have to wait and see when it happens. Make sure you put this great movie on the list of your Halloween favorites for this month.

‘Halloweentown’

“Halloweentown” is a family favorite that Halloween lovers look forward to every year. What makes it even better is there is not only one but four movies in this series. However, you and your family will only find parts one and two on the Halloween schedule this year. The first movie of the series was released in 1998 and became a Halloween hit.

When 12-year old Marnie finds out she is a witch, she finds the portal to Halloweentown and the adventure begins. There, she learns about who she really is and finds herself fighting evil. This is a great movie to watch with the kids this Halloween.

Be sure to check for the full series to shown throughout October. This is a series of movies you do not want to miss this season! Even though Freeform is only showing two of the movies does not mean you won’t see them elsewhere. Get the snacks and enjoy this great series of Halloween movies with the family.

Don’t Forget the Halloween Snacks

Planning movie nights in October can be a lot of fun for the whole family. In the run up to Halloween, creative snack ideas are everywhere. Kids love making snacks, and Halloween is the best time to try out a crazy recipe. To make it even better, why not come up with some of your own ideas?

A classic example of a Halloween snack ingredient is candy corn. One of the most popular ways candy corn is used as a snack is being added to any store-bought snack mix. This is easy to make and enjoy. See what other combinations you can find!

Another fun snack idea is Halloween themed cookies and cupcakes. You and your family can choose the basic recipe and go wild from there. There are so many Halloween themes and creatures that can be created with icing toppings. One thing that I have noticed has become popular is buying kits that include what is needed to create your creatures such as wings, eyes, and vampire teeth.

Halloween is one of the best holidays to put your creativity to work. Costumes and festivals are usually what most people think about but remember the little things. By carefully choosing a movie and making fun snacks, your family will have a Halloween to remember. Get the family together and start organizing as soon as possible to guarantee the perfect Halloween movie night.
