Dogs love their toys, but they can be expensive. Why not make a few yourself? DIY dog toys are free and simple. Find some old clothes or ruined toys and get started. It’s that easy.
1. The Simple Braided Rope
Do you have any bits of rope or scraps of fabric? Maybe some old clothes you were going to throw out? Now you can turn them into a DIY dog toy! You can make this braided rope out of almost anything.
Take your material, and cut it into three lengthy pieces. They need to be a foot or two long. Take the three pieces and knot them all together on one end, leaving a few inches out of the knot. Now, you should have a knot with three sections of fabric hanging down. Do you have it? Good!
Next, braid the three pieces together. Once you get close to the end of your DIY dog toy, you will make another knot. Leave a few inches of fabric out of this side as well. That’s all! You’ve finished your first DIY dog toy.
2. No-Sew Dog Toy
No-sew dog toys are created the same way you put no-sew blankets together. First, find some material. Again, this can be almost anything. It just needs to be big enough to cut out two pieces of the shape you are trying to create. The easiest way to figure out if your material is big enough is by folding it in half and drawing out the shape on top, leaving enough room to cut stripes in the sides.
The next step is to cut out the shape. You should have two identical pieces of fabric now. Lay them on top of each other. Then, go around the sides and make a minor cut every one inch. Do this around the entirety of your dog toy, making strips of fabric on both the top and bottom shapes.
You will tie the aligning strips of fabric from the top and bottom shapes together, leaving one or two untied. You should have an almost put together dog toy by this point. If you have any stuffing or squeakers you want to put inside the dog toy, this is the time. Make it soft and cuddly!
Once that’s done, tie the last strips together. You just finished your second DIY dog toy! Your dog will love it!
3. Tennis Ball full of Treats
Do you have any tennis balls lying around? Perhaps an old one that your dog tore into. Now we’ve got the perfect way to recycle them into a new DIY dog toy.
Take a knife and create a small slice in the tennis ball, just enough to slip a few treats inside. Once you slip the treats inside, hand the tennis ball over to your dog. That’s it! They’ll spend the next hour or two trying to get the treats out of the ball. It’s simple and your dog will love their DIY toy.
