The son of David will live forever.
(Ps. 89:37)

Today is the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and earthly father of Jesus. A solemnity is the highest class of feast days. Much honor is bestowed upon Joseph. It’s a day to celebrate the adoptive father of Jesus. The man who cared for Jesus and raised him.

Jesus showed perfect obeisance to his earthly father obeying the fourth commandment (CC. 532). We should strive to model the relationship between Jesus and Joseph in our own lives with our fathers.

As Jesus was Joesph’s child, Christians are the children of Abraham because we share the same faith as Abraham. We are connected, not through blood, but through faith.

King David was promised that his house would rule the Heavenly Kingdom. Joseph, a member of David’s house, was father to Jesus, thus making Jesus from the house of David. Jesus reigns forever on the throne in Heaven.

When we die we are to be entrusted to Saint Joseph as he is the patron saint of a happy death (CC. 1014). With Jesus as our king, we are Heavenly subjects. Given grace and mercy, we are formed to perfection upon entering God’s Kingdom. There we will see the beatific vision. We will live in Heaven in perfect peace and prosperity forever and ever.

Blessed are those who dwell in your house, O Lord; they never cease to praise you.
(Ps. 89:37)
