Love conquers all. We all have experienced being in love. We are in love and have been in love. We do everything to please the one we love. Our thoughts are full of the best things, good deeds, and praises. We sacrificed and gave ourselves everything for this beloved.
This Love Conquers All
When human love hurts us or passes away, it dissipates; we look for someone else to love. There is no forever love. Human love is conditional. But where do we find this unconditional Love? Love is not a feeling, it is the Person of Jesus Christ.
What manner of love is this?
“That may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide, high, and deep is the love of Christ.”Ephesians 3:18 (NIV)
This amazing love is all about forgiveness. We cannot love God with our doings. God loves us first, so we can love God. God touches us with His Love. So we can love ourselves and others. This Love is the fulfillment of the law.
“This is genuine love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”1 John 4:10 (NLT)
The love of God gives us value. His love lavishes us with favors and accepts us in the Beloved. No matter who we are or where we’ve been. The love of God for us is deep. It gives us the strength and the will to go through every trial and all circumstances. God is a good God. He is not out there to get us and punish us but to forgive and love us back into wholeness.
Christians in China, being rooted and grounded in the love of Christ, experience and sense the love of God in their hearts. They can love others and help them even as they know they are at risk of severe punishment or even death by the state.
This Love That Conquers China
Christianity came to China in A.D. 635, by a Nestorian monk named Aluoben. The Imperial edict limited foreign religion. In 845, it triggered a period of persecution. And Christianity disappeared during the Tang dynasty in 907.
But God loves China and its people. The Chinese have a special place in His heart. Many Protestants and Catholic missionaries continue to spread the Love of Christ in China, even at the risk of persecution as of today.
After World War II, China turned to communism and atheism. Religious suppression became severe. Not only with the Christians, but also with other religions.

This Love That Conquers Stands on Solid Ground
It’s even worse now that they cracked down on the underground churches. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) shut down hundreds of house churches outside the government-approved church network. Removed crosses and forced them to hang the CCP flags. Jailed pastors, conducted mass arrest, and even rewrote the scriptures.
The CCP shut down the Early Rain Church, the best underground church last October. They arrested Pastor Wang Yi and his wife Jiang Rong. They charged them for “inciting subversion”. This is a crime that bears a penalty of imprisonment for 15 years. Many members went into hiding and they sent others to provinces. And Pastor Yang’s mother and two sons are under surveillance.

The Chinese Communist Party aims to be the god of China and the Chinese people. Xi Jinping is more invasive and attempts to control the hearts and minds of the people.
The CCP is intensifying religious persecution as Christians are growing in numbers. Despite the persecution. China now is experiencing an explosion in the number of growing believers.
This Love That Conquers is the Genuine Love
Chinese Christians are even bolder and stronger in their faith. Because they experienced the love of God through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. They found their worth and value in the Love of God, which is Jesus Christ.
The underground churches hold meetings online, in the car, park, workplaces, or restaurants. One member is a student whom they sent back to Guangzhou, said he preaches the gospel to the police who watch him.
The church did not stop sending out daily scripture and posts videos of sermons. According to Pastor Wang, “The rulers have chosen an enemy that they cannot imprison, the soul of man. So, it is their doom to lose this war”.
The Love That Conquers Cannot Be Suppressed
Despite the novel coronavirus that originated in China. The CCP has continued its campaign of religious persecution. But they cannot suppress the Christians. Most human rights lawyers, journalists, bloggers, and political prisoners are Christians. They torture them in the harsh, threatening, prisons and detention centers. There are physical attacks, arbitrary and unlawful killings, and forced disappearances. There are involuntary hospitalization and psychiatric treatment, forcing them to take psychiatric pills.
Despite the severe restrictions of religious freedom, persecutions, torture, and even the risk of death, they continue their advocacy for human rights and freedom of religion. Christians came out and helped those who are suffering and share gospel tracks, while neighbors left dead bodies of their relatives outside in the height of the COVID-19. What manner of love is this? When this love conquers the heart of men, it expels all fear.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Let us remember to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in China. Who stands in faith in love with Jesus Christ. This faith that passes all understanding.
