Zombies have become a brand in American culture. Television, movies, gaming, novels, anime, and comic books create a zombies culture of entertainment for the thrill seeker. The zombie culture has also created a subculture in the market. Clothing, monsters, posters, games, and music fill the market with zombies while satisfying the dark side.

Zombies: The Dark Side of Entertainment

The dark side of zombies doesn’t consist of just scary entertainment. It is authentic. Zombies are practiced in voodoo, politics, other nations, and in the United States. The Federal Government has a plan for the event of a zombie apocalypse, and many individuals follow the cult in preparation.

In entertainment, zombies are often a result of a virus or chemical, biological change. In literature, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is an example of a zombie created by man. In reality, zombies are created by the use of voodoo, potions, and chemicals. This is generally found in third world countries where witchcraft is widely practiced.

Should Christians accept zombie entertainment? The Bible doesn’t expressly discuss zombies, but it does warn against witchcraft. It offers this warning to those who practice witchcraft; Isaiah 47:11-12 (NIV) says, “Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you. Keep on, then, with the magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror.” Isaiah 47:14, “Surely, they are like stubble: the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. These are not coals for warmth; this is not a fire to sit by.”

This sounds like a very grave warning against witchcraft. Furthermore, Psalm 101:3 says “I will set no wicked thing before my eyes.” Are zombies in entertainment wicked? If God prohibits witchcraft, then it must be wrong to watch zombie entertainment. Perhaps zombie entertainment is not “a fire to sit by.” If Christians want to watch violence and people rising from the dead watch The Passion of the Christ instead.
