The Napa Valley Wine Train is easily accessible from San Francisco. Take the ferry to Vallejo and board the Napa Valley Wine Train Shuttle that will take you to the Train Station.

The Napa Valley Wine Train is a round-trip journey from Downtown Napa to St. Helena with spectacular views of the wine country. Napa Valley Wine Train offers a variety of experiences including dining, winery tours, and overnight hotel packages.

2. Get out of urban San Francisco and into nature at Muir Woods

Muir Woods is just a few miles north of San Francisco in Marin County. The redwood forest has some trees that are nearly 1,000 years old and reach heights of more than 250 feet. Muir Woods has six miles of hiking trails of various difficulty levels.

The Muir Woods Shuttle brings visitors from off-site locations like San Francisco to the park and back. The shuttle serves a few locations and the Sausalito stop is recommended for visitors taking the Sausalito Ferry from San Francisco. Book your shuttle ticket in advance for this trip and download it since there is no cell phone service or WiFi at or around Muir Woods.

Day Trip Tip:

The last shuttles of the day fill up quickly, so plan your departure time accordingly.

3. Make learning fun at the Oakland Museum of California

The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is an interdisciplinary museum dedicated to the art, history, and natural science of California. Docent lead tours are included with Museum admission and cover special exhibitions and seasonal themes. Friday Nights at OMCA are held every Friday night. The fun events provide after hours Museum access, food trucks, performances, and local makers selling handcrafted works and art.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is the public transportation system serving the San Francisco Bay Area. Oakland Museum of California is conveniently located one block from the Lake Merritt BART station, making this a very close day trip.

Day Trip Tip:

Take a bike tour from July through October with the Museum’s docents through the scenic and historical parts of Oakland on this trip.
