The area in the Florida Panhandle, known as 30A, is an idyllic place. White sand, turquoise waters and many favorite dining spots, too!
30A received its name from the 24-mile, scenic two-lane state road that spans the area’s length, following a parallel path along the beach. 30A is roughly located between Destin and Panama City Beach and is a vacationer’s (or resident’s) dream.
I recently wrote about 5 Tips When Visiting Florida’s 30A, which provides insider suggestions for making your vacation to 30A a memorable success. To compliment that, listed below are 4 of my favorite dining spots when visiting Florida’s 30A.
Great Southern Cafe
The Great Southern Café is a delicious dining spot on 30A and is located in the heart of Seaside. With dining tables inside and out, always opt for the outside! It is an excellent place to watch tanned and happy people roam around the Seaside town center. And the food is delicious!
The menu is southern casual. The Great Southern’s breakfast is second to none with traditional breakfast, delicious beignets, and the BEST cheese grits anywhere. Don’t forget a mimosa or huge bloody mary stuffed with okra, olives, and green beans. Why not order one, as they say, you are on vacation!
Lunch and dinner are just as delectable. Their menu is full of southern favorites from po’ boys to seafood dishes to fresh salads. What’s more, the Great Southern grills up the biggest, juiciest cheeseburger on 30A!
Borago, a favorite dining spot on 30A, is located in Grayton Beach. This Italian restaurant goes beyond the standard spaghetti and meatballs. The establishment pulls in seafood for many dishes, and their traditional pasta dishes are full of flavor.
My personal favorite is the Angel Hair with red chilies, olive oil, garlic, and parmesan. This dish packs a punch of spicy flavor, yet is super light and fresh. The Three Meat Bolognese and Arrancini dishes are also fabulous. The Borago bar makes a Peach Bellini that is so yummy, it has become my weakness.
The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is sophisticated. You will not find red and white checked tablecloths here. While Borago is family-friendly, it is more of a good date night location.
Pescado Seafood Grill and Rooftop Bar
While much of the 30A beachfront is residential, a few eateries have tremendous views of the turquoise waters and white sand. Pescado Seafood Grill and Rooftop Bar, located on the fourth floor of a building near the Gulf, is one such place and a favorite dining spot on 30A. Located in Rosemary Beach, Pescado has views of the water and is a magnificent place for watching the sunset.
Their menu includes mouth-watering selections such as lobster and filet mignon. They also offer tantalizing options such as a raw bar, cheese boards, and the chef’s fish of the day. And, the Pescado bar employs highly skilled mixologists serving up craft cocktails with flavors that compliment the salty air.
All Pescado patrons must be over 18 years of age, except for Sunday brunch and lunches. My family has made Pescado a special occasion place, such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It’s also a great date night! The atmosphere and décor are relaxing and sophisticated.
Also of note, The Courtyard at Pescado is on the first floor of the same building. The Courtyard is an intimate bar serving craft cocktails and nibbles such as cheese boards and ceviche. The decor’s jewel colors pop, and the chandeliers sparkle while live music is played. It is a special place to begin or end your evening.
Black Bear Bread Co.
While they make bread, pastries, and cookies, the café also serves a full menu for breakfast and lunch. Offering locally grown, seasonal items, the menu includes tartines, sandwiches, and salads.
Additionally, Black Bear recently added an adjacent Bar Room which serves wine and beer. Currently, they are working to obtain a liquor license and offer craft cocktails. If you do visit the Bar Room, ask for Matt. He will take excellent care of you.
Florida’s 30A provides many dining and drinking options. The eateries listed above are just a few of my favorite places to nibble and sip. When visiting 30A you will not be disappointed – in the turquoise waters or the dining choices.
