Have you ever heard of a rainbow river in Colombia called River of Five Colors? This Colombian river changes colors from green, blue, yellow, red to black. The cause of this natural phenomenon is the plant, which covers the river bottom and produces the colors.
Even if you skip the jungles, beaches, national parks and botanical gardens in Colombia, a simple hike through a Colombian forest will leave you mesmerized. Also, you could take a walk around coffee plantations in the country. However, make sure you consult locals about which areas are private property in Colombia.
Colombia’s people are highly protective over their lands, so you will want to avoid upsetting them. Thus grab a pair of walking shoes and explore the astonishing Colombian nature.
When ranking Colombia’s most attractive natural destinations, volcanoes deserve to be high on the list. The country has 15 active volcanoes. The most famous volcanic complex is the Los Nevados National Natural Park in Colombia. The Natural Park in Colombia is open for visitors, however, sometimes restricted depending on the activity of the volcanoes.
As a former expat in Colombia, I highly recommend visiting Los Nevados. Out of all Colombia’s breathtaking attractions I have seen, the volcanic landscapes were the most interesting ones. The stunning edgy nature of the volcanoes gives an impression you are on walking on the surface of another planet in Colombia.
If you are a fruit lover, Colombia is a perfect country for you. For a cheap you will get exotic fruit of prime quality. Know that after you get back to your home country, many fruits, such as mango, papaya and even oranges will not taste as good as before Colombia.
Also, you will discover many tropical fruits growing, which you never heard of before. It took me a while to get used to that the fruit I considered as exotic is ordinary in Colombia.
During my hikes in Colombia, I would often come across of trees of oranges and avocados, growing among the tangled bush next to the muddy road. As a European, I was used to seeing blackberries or apples growing randomly in the fields. My country hikes now included refreshing organic fruits in Colombia.
