We have heard it a million times – “First impression is the last impression.” This may not stand true in all cases. But when it comes to writing – headlines are the only impression that matters.
Some copywriters believe that you should spend 50% of your time to write your headline.
Whoa, that’s a lot of time, right?
I mean, a headline comprises just a few words, why should I spend so much time writing it?
Copyblogger says that 8 out of 10 people will read your headline and only 2 out of 10 readers will read your entire content.
So, no matter what the rest of your article looks like, your readers may not even move forward from an average headline.
There are a few ways you can write a great headline:
Write a Clear Headline
Your headline has a few words. So clearly state what you are offering to your reader. Don’t make it vague and difficult to understand. It should be your goal to make the reader understand what you have in store for them.
Do: Use simple, clear and concise words.
Don’t: Beat around the bush.
Make Your Reader Curious
Catch your reader’s attention.
A human’s attention span is just 8.25 seconds.
So, your aim is to get the reader’s attention for 8 seconds and then engage them with the rest of your content.
Do: Convince your reader to continue reading.
Don’t: Write boring content.
Use Numbers in Your Headlines
The human brain loves numbers.
And when it comes to writing great headlines, odd numbers are preferred more than even numbers.
Do: Use odd numbers like 3,5,7, etc.
Don’t: Use large numbers, stick to small numbers.
