1. Decide On Your Plot For Your Entertaining Short Story

Decide what your story will be about. Are you going to write about knights in Camelot? Are you going to write about zombies?

Maybe you’re going to write about two people falling in love for the first time in high school. Whatever the subject matter is, commit to it completely. You should know enough about this world to cover it in about 1,000-3,000 words.

2. Creating Characters Who Are Complex and Well-Rounded Will Make For An Entertaining Short Story

You want to focus on your characters. The best short story writers always do. You do not have as much time to keep the reader guessing about the plot as you would in a novel.

Focusing on your characters draws your readers in. You can describe your characters’ traits and personalities in detail. Let the reader know who they are, what their vices are, and what they are capable of doing.

3. Every Short Story Has A Convincing Plot

Make sure that your story starts off with everyone feeling fairly happy. Then make sure there is a conflict. Keep the reader wondering whether this conflict will ever be resolved.

By the end of your short story, you should resolve the conflict. Your hero should have learned a valuable lesson. Your reader will feel satisfied if this is the case.

4. Entertaining Stories Contain Convincing Description

This a short story, so you are not supposed to use as many words as you would in a novel. However, the words you do use can be very effective.

Do not be afraid to add some description about the sunset. Paint a picture for your reader of the broken wine bottles scattering the floor after a drunken rage. Describe the sunset in its glory.

Writing short stories requires a special set of skills. You have to bring the reader into your world for a short time.

You have to write concisely without sacrificing quality. Short stories are wonderful gifts to humanity.
